Ontario Energy Board - NEW ONTARIO ELECTRICITY SUPPORT PROGRAM

The Ontario Energy Board has launched and begun accepting applications for the Ontario Electricity Support Program - a program designed to help reduce electricity bills for low income households.  The program starts in 2016 and provides a monthly on-bill credit for elegible households.

Smoke Free ~ North Shore Health Network (NSHN)

The North Shore Health Network (formerly the Blind River
District Health Center), together with Algoma Public Health (APH) are advising
patients, staff and visitors that all
grounds and properties of the Blind River, Thessalon and Richards Landing – Matthews
sites are 100% smoke free, effective September
01, 2016.

Supporting
a Smoke Free environment on NSHN Property

APH Tobacco Enforcement Officers will issue tickets to violators of
the bylaw, with fines starting at $255.

Patients, staff, visitors and
volunteers are reminded to respect the rights and privacy of the property owners
in proximity to any of the NSHN properties.

Smoker
Cessation/Management Supports Available

If you are a smoker and
are receiving care at any of the NSHN sites we will help you to manage your
nicotine withdrawal. Your nurse will talk to you about your smoking pattern and
medications that can be prescribed while you are in hospital to manage nicotine
withdrawal.

Summer Watering Schedule

Under By-law No. 1803, property owners with even numbered street addresses can water on even-numbered days of the week and those with odd-numbered addresses are able to water on odd-numbered days from 7 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Community Day Weekend Road Closures and Detours

ROAD CLOSURE:  Main Street from the south side of Genelle Street to the north side of Algoma Street be closed on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until approximately 9:00 p.m. for the Car and Bike Show - Northern Family Fun Night.        

 

NO PARKING:  along the north side of Huron Street East from Dyment Street to the Marina and on the north side of Algoma Street East from Bay Street to the Marina, on August 4, 2017 from approximately 7:00 p.m. until the conclusion of the fireworks that evening (in the case of rain, on August 6, 2017 from approximately 7:00 p.m. until the conclusion of the fireworks that evening), to enable emergency vehicle access to this area."                        

 

ROAD CLOSURE:  Government Road Closed between Federation Street and Main Street, Main Street between Peachy Street and Huron Street, Huron Street between Main Street and Water Street, and Water Street between Huron Street and Government Road, from approximately 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on August 5, 2017 for the Community Day Parade.  

                 

DETOUR when the parade is in the downtown area on August 5, 2017 from approximately 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., Council approves a detour for persons using the easterly entrance to the municipality, with the detour to direct traffic traveling into Town along River Street easterly onto Peachy Street, and northerly onto Boundary Road to Highway 17, with signage advising of the road closure to be posted.

 

DETOUR:  Council approve the use of the former spur from Peachy Street to Genelle Street as a detour during the parade

 

ROAD CLOSURE:  Community Day, August 5, 2017 from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. of the section of Main Street from the south side of Lorne Street to the north side of Bay Street including the service lane west of Main Street from the south side of Lorne Street to the north side of Algoma Street for the games, food booths and various activities to take place after the parade.
