The Physician Recruitment Initiative
The Town of Thessalon in partnership with the North Shore Health Network, the Huron Shores Family
Health Team and the Municipality of Huron Shores is proud to launch a new physician recruitment initiative. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen access to local healthcare and ensure the long-term stability of medical services in Thessalon and the surrounding communities.
Thessalon has faced ongoing challenges in securing full-time physicians, with all contract positions vacant since 2022. This initiative uses the Touchstone Practice Ready Ontario (PRO) program to recruit qualified internationally trained physicians who are ready to practice in Ontario communities.
To support this effort, physicians from the nearby Bruce Mines Family Health Team will provide the
required supervision and mentorship during the physician’s contract period. This structured approach ensures safe, high-quality care for residents while helping the new physician establish their practice locally.
Community sponsorship will directly support supervision, recruitment, and retention efforts, with any additional funds assisting relocation costs and recruitment incentives. Together, this support helps secure stable, long-term access to healthcare close to home.
